Hair Pullers Anonymous is a nation-wide fellowship of individuals who, through our shared experience, strength, and hope are recovering from compulsive hair pulling (trichotillomania).
What is Trichotillomania? Trichotillomania is a disorder that causes people to pull out the hair from their scalp, eyelashes, eyebrows, or other parts of the body, often resulting in noticeable bald patches. It is currently defined as an impulse-control disorder. It is estimated to affect at least one to two percent of the American population.
Trichotillomania is a term coined by a French dermatologist in 1889 to describe the compulsive or irresistible urge he saw in patients to pluck out their hair.
We at HPA have found a way of staying pull-free one day at a time, through the use of the 12 steps and this fellowship. We sincerely hope you will find this website useful, and will join us on our path to recovery.
